We recruit first-year registrars (RANZCP Stage 1 trainees) and support them to complete their training with us over the years to come.

This is a crucial foundation year in psychiatry training. We look to employ those who have a genuine interest in a fulfilling career in psychiatry and have a broad range of interests across this field.

Our first-year registrars either rotate through:

  • two 6-month terms in our adult inpatient unit (IPU), or
  • one 6-month term in our IPU and one six-month term with a community mental health team.

There are rich and intensive learning experiences with our IPU and Community Consultants and the multidisciplinary teams.

We offer a broad and varied range of teaching and education for first year trainees, including psychiatric interview, psychotherapy and psychiatric theory.

First-year registrars benefit from both the group teaching and collegial support with their immediate training group plus the broader registrar group who all come together for Grand Rounds, Academic Colloquia and other training opportunities.

Dedicated training time is allocated to attend an accredited formal education course and other training requirements.
