Our Environmental, Social and Governance reports outline our commitment and progress in driving sustainable social change across the organisation.

We are a values-driven organisation actively working to address inequity in health care and removing barriers to access safe, person-centred care.

We commit to making business decisions that will lead to social and environmental positive change and stronger governance arrangements that benefit our people, community and stakeholders.

ESG Reports

As a government-funded organisation, we are required to deliver a set of priorities agreed to by the RMH Board and the Minister for Health. Each year, this is reported in our Statement of Priorities in the annual report.

Our ESG Report looks at a unique set of priorities. It outlines:

  • what we believe makes the RMH a great place to work and to receive care
  • areas we've identified where we can, and must, do better

The reports are developed in consultation with internal stakeholders across the organisation and overseen by the ESG Working Group.

Environmental reports

The RMH started environmental sustainability initiatives in 2009. Since then we have:

  • improved our waste segregation
  • increased our recycling rate
  • decreased clinical waste generation
  • reduced paper consumption, energy use and emissions
  • introduced drug disposal bins
  • won the Premier’s Sustainability Awards 2019 – Health Category for reducing hunger and food waste in our community
  • reduced emissions from anaesthetic gases by 43 per cent and costs by 50 per cent through an anaesthetist-led project

Sustainability continues to be one of our organisation's strategic drivers in our Strategic Plan.
