The RMH Parkville is easily accessible by train, bus, tram or taxi. There are multiple transport options for you to get to or from the hospital.
Tram
- 19 tram (City to North Coburg), runs along Royal Parade. You can get off the tram at Grattan Street or just outside Melbourne Private Hospital
- 58 tram (Toorak to West Coburg), runs along Flemington Road. Get off at Grattan Street and cross the road to the main entrance. This route is partly serviced by low-floor trams - look for a wheelchair icon in tram timetables
- 59 tram (City to Airport West), runs along Flemington Road. Get off at Grattan Street and cross the road to the main entrance
Bus
- 241 bus (North Melbourne Station to Yarra Bend Park) currently runs past the hospital
- 402 bus (East Melbourne to Footscray via North Melbourne) currently runs past the hospital
As of Sunday 1 February 2026, the following bus routes have been discontinued:
- 202 bus (Yarra Bend - Melbourne Univeristy)
- 401 bus (North Melbourne Station - Melbourne University loop)
- 403 bus (Footscray Station - Melbourne University via Royal Melbourne Hospital)
NOTE: Changes to Grattan St access due to night works affecting bus routes
Starting on Monday 20 April 2026, and running for a minimum of three weeks, night works will be taking place on the façade on the VCCC building on Grattan St. These works will take place on weeknights between 7pm-5am (ie works for the week will conclude at 5am Saturday mornings, and restart 7pm Monday evenings). To support these works to be completed safely, detours will be in place for buses, with the stops at the front of the RMH and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (stop IDs 51581 and 28676) closed each night from 7pm to 5am.
Train
The new Parkville train station is now open. Visit Transport Victoria to plan your journey.
Other options include:
- catch a train to North Melbourne station, then the 401 bus from North Melbourne station to the hospital (weekdays only)
- catch a train to Flagstaff station, then the route 58 tram (towards West Coburg) to the hospital
- catch a train to Melbourne Central station, then a route 19 (towards North Coburg) or route 59 (towards Airport West) tram to the hospital
Parkville Station is located on Grattan Street, Parkville, at the corner of Royal Parade.
There are 4 station entrances / exits:
- Grattan Street East, located outside University of Melbourne
- Royal Parade East, located on the northeast corner of Grattan Street and Royal Parade
- Royal Parade West, located on the northwest corner of Grattan Street and Royal Parade, outside The Royal Melbourne Hospital
- Grattan Street West, located on the southwest corner of Grattan Street and Royal Parade, outside Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
Within 400 metres of the station of the station are the University of Melbourne, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne Private Hospital, North Melbourne Police Station, and University Square.
Nearby outside the boundary of this map are Queen Victoria Market, Argyle Square, North Melbourne Primary School, the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne Zoo, and Lygon Street.
Taxis
The taxi rank is located just outside the main entrance on Grattan Street.
There are two taxi phones in the atrium foyer:
- Just inside the Grattan Street entrance doors
- On a large column, near the doors leading into the main foyer
