The emergency medicine registrar teaching program at the Royal Melbourne Hospital is a supportive program that sees high examination success rates for registrars of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
Program participants benefit from protected teaching time each week and an emphasis on research opportunities through our associated academic department.
Program overview
The department is accredited for 3 years as a training post by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM).
The program includes:
- 38 hours a week, plus 5 hours protected teaching time
- Team training, simulation-based teaching, practical workshops and grand round discussion forums
- Participation in regional teaching programs
- In-house primary and fellowship exam preparation courses with a high success rate
Your training will be conducted under the supervision of emergency physicians who have postgraduate expertise in toxicology, ultrasound, ECHO, retrieval medicine, research, pre-hospital care, medical education, infectious diseases and simulation.
Registrar rotations
Our registrars have the opportunity to rotate internally to anaesthetics, ICU and psychiatry, as well as external rotations to:
- The Royal Women's Hospital
- The Royal Children's Hospital
- Northern Hospital
- The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital
- Sunshine Hospital
There are country anaesthetic rotations to Wangaratta and Ballarat Base Hospitals available.
