Centre of Excellence

Our Diabetes and Endocrinology department cares for people with a broad range of endocrine conditions, including diabetes, osteoporosis, pituitary disease and thyroid disease.

In recognition of the expert clinical care and education we deliver to patients, we have been named a Centre of Excellence by the National Association of Diabetes Centres.

Our achievements

We've led major clinical initiatives across diabetes, pituitary disease, and bone and mineral medicine, including:

• First in Australia to implement a networked blood glucose meter system across all inpatient areas, automatically integrated with the electronic medical record to support proactive inpatient diabetes care
• Victoria's first multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Unit, delivered as part of the broader Hospital Admission Risk Program (HARP)
• Comprehensive diabetes services, including ambulatory insulin stabilisation, insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, and bolus advisor glucose meter services
• State-of-the-art perioperative care for patients undergoing pituitary surgery
• A dedicated fracture-capture service to identify and treat patients presenting to hospital with fractures caused by underlying bone disorders
