Collection Requirements

**Specific 3.8% Sodium Citrate Tube** Fill tube to the line indicated. Keep specimen at room temperature and hand deliver to Central Specimen Reception ASAP after collection. DO NOT use pneumatic tube.

Venous blood must be collected using 21G or larger needle. Min vol: 3ml

Difficult collections, haemolysed and/or lipaemic specimens not recommended

Test ideally performed NOT BEFORE 10mins post collection and within 1hour post collection, although up to 4 hours post collection is acceptable for the PFA aqua blue cap tube. No longer than 3 hours post collection is acceptable for the pale blue tube.

Specimen must be delivered to MH Pathology, Haematology and sent to RCH ASAP. Please note specific collection and specimen handling requirements. Sodium Citrate Tube (** 3.8% tube required). Tubes are available in both collection centres.
